This is Denzel at his best, he’s simultaneously charming and frightening. I watched this movie not knowing he would be the villain and not knowing if I was supposed to approve of the things he was doing, which I think made it better because I felt the same betrayal Ethan Hawke’s character did. His character is slightly more understated, yet he’s always one of my favorite actors. He focuses on realism over dramatics and knows when to lean back and let another actor have their moment. This definitely the number one first day on the job movie.
