Overview

Ryan Coogler's 'Sinners' presents a gripping return to a hometown filled with dark secrets, showcasing the talents of Michael B. Jordan and Hailee Steinfeld. The film's premise of twin brothers confronting their past is both intriguing and ripe for psychological exploration. However, the film may lean heavily on genre conventions that some viewers might find predictable.

Worth noting

The action sequences are well-crafted, and the tension builds effectively throughout, but the dialogue can sometimes veer into crass territory, which may detract from the overall impact. For fans of horror and thrillers, 'Sinners' offers enough thrills and chills to warrant a viewing, though it may not reach the heights of Coogler's prior work. It's a mixed bag that will appeal to genre enthusiasts but might leave others wanting more depth and originality.

The kind of movie that reminds you why you fell in love with movies in the first place

A horror film that spends an entire hour setting up characters, place, and time so that when people start dying you actually give a shit. Pretty sure this entered “classic” status in my heart when the Asian characters opened their mouths for the first time in a film set in 1932 and spoke with a southern accent.
