A loud, crowd-pleasing college chaos comedy with strong energy, a few big laughs, and enough emotional lift to keep it moving, but the writing sounds uneven and the first half may test patience. It seems to work best as a high-voltage entertainer rather than a tightly constructed drama.

Verdict

Best for
fans of energetic Malayalam entertainers
viewers who like rivalry-driven comedies
audiences in the mood for music, color, and campus chaos
people who forgive rough edges if the film is lively
Skip if
you want tightly written character drama
you dislike broad humor and exaggerated performances
you need consistent pacing from start to finish
you are tired of noisy, high-decibel college-set films
Overview
Athiradi looks built for maximum momentum: a banned college festival, a stubborn student lead, and a rivalry that keeps turning celebration into mayhem. The response suggests it lands as a lively crowd film, with the comedy, music, and interval-to-climax energy doing most of the heavy lifting.
Worth noting
The appeal seems to come from performance chemistry and sheer pace more than precision. Reviewers repeatedly point to the lead duo’s screen presence, the soundtrack, and the way the film escalates once the chaos properly kicks in. When it works, it sounds like the kind of movie that earns laughs and cheers in the moment.
Bottom line
That said, the film also appears uneven, with some viewers feeling the first half drags and the emotional beats don’t always fully land. If you’re in the mood for a polished, tightly controlled comedy-drama, this may frustrate you. If you want a spirited, messy, high-energy entertainer, it likely delivers enough to justify the ride.

Nalla fun padam. Problems ondo enn chodichaal, yes, but sometimes I am very much satisfied if a film is throughout entertaining and makes the time we invest in the film worth it, and this film falls in that category for me. Loved the editing choices, direction, and music, but the standout part was the comedy, koraye chirichu...almost ella comedy um land aavumbol kittuna aah oru feel for an out and out entertainer film is something else and ath ithil kitti.… more

Absolute Banger… 🔥 Athiradi was packed with some good humor, great action, and genuine emotion. Overall, it was a total entertainer. The core idea was fun, and they blended the emotional side really well. But idk man, i was really tensed through the whole movie. Basil Joseph was, as usual, funny and energetic throughout. But Tovino Thomas’s re-entry was just high 🔥, the man carried an aura throughout the film, nailed the dialogue delivery, and absolutely killed the action sequences.… more

Civil Gunda vs. Gana Gunda I don't understand people commenting, "The first half is slow." Just say you have the attention span of a reel-watching goldfish. People complain about anything nowadays What do you even want? The first half is about Basil's life and why he's doing what he's doing. You can't jump straight into rage from the first minute.without any character development, Why do you even watch movies? Just go watch movies in reels.(Insert our brain is shrinking gif)
